There’s a lot of information out there about satellite broadband, but much is out of date or incorrect. How does satellite broadband work?
Satellite broadband is a bit like satellite TV – but with a two-way connection. You send data to one of the 1,000’s of satellites orbiting 22,000 miles above us, and they send data back to help you do whatever you need to do online. Brdy uses geostationary satellites, meaning they move at the same speed as earth’s rotation, staying in place to deliver your broadband.
The first internet-ready satellite was launched in 2003, but speeds were slow, and connections unreliable at best. In the last 10 years, the technology has come on in leaps and bounds with Brdy at the forefront of the satellite broadband revolution having worked with all of the major satellite operators since launching (as Satellite solutions) over a decade ago.

FAQ: How does the satellite connection reach my home?
Via a satellite dish on your property, connected to a router in your house, which can be installed by one of our engineers, or alternatively, you can do this yourself or with the help of a local installer.
What can you do with a satellite connection?
Satellite broadband is the ideal solution for rural living, where cabled broadband simply isn’t an option. With speeds of up to 50 Mbps, your online world will open up; meaning you can video chat with a friend, treat yourself to something new or stream your latest Netflix obsession.
FAQ: How can I watch Netflix without any disruptions?
While satellite broadband can support streaming, we recommend only having one device online at once while watching streaming services such as Netflix and choosing to watch in standard resolution rather than 4K/ HD. Alternatively, download your favourite shows first, for 100% uninterrupted viewing. Top tip: downloading overnight will not eat into your priority data.

As satellite broadband works via satellites, there’s no need for a landline. We don’t rely on you having an existing phone line, the internet reaches you from space, not via existing cables running into your home.
