OneWeb Satellite Broadband

The OneWeb constellation now consists of around 650 satellites situated In low earth orbit, and providing unrivalled network coverage across Europe and to all corners of the globe.

Our partner OneWeb’s network of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites provides fast, dependable connection with low latency.

The OneWeb networks uses the latest generation of ‘LEO’ satellites, as opposed to GEO (geostationary) satellites. The key advantage of LEO is the comparatively short distance they are positioned above the Earth, which is around 745 miles. GEO satellites operate in higher orbit, at around 22,000 miles. With LEO satellites being positioned closer to receivers on earth the speed to send and receive signals is much quicker, reducing latency down below 100MS, providing an ideal solution for business applications where speed of data transmission is paramount.

Equipment & Installation

The OneWeb dual parabolic antenna is designed for high throughput performance and efficiency. Featuring two identical 73cm antennas, the unit is mounted outside and has a footprint of approx. 250cm x 75cm. The key benefit of the dual parabolic Is It’s ability to reduce the risk of latency during ‘handover’ of the signal between satellites. The dual parabolic contains 2 receivers, whilst one manages the active connection to the satellite, the second scans and locates and connects to the next satellite In the constellation, and seamlessly takes over as soon as the signal to that satellite Is stronger. This system of handover between the closest satellite Is constantly repeated, ensuring connection to the closest satellite at all times.
Kymeta

The antenna is connected via a coaxial cable to a Customer Network Exchange (CNX) unit, which is the interface between the user’s equipment and the satellite network.

In addition to the dual antenna, the latest generation Kymeta terminals such as the Hawk U8 are a great alternative solution where space Is a premium, or where time to deploy Is paramount.

Both the parabolic and Kymeta options are available for use In both land ‘fixed’ locations and for mobile maritime deployment.

Additionally, the Kymeta ‘Go’ is a shippable case mounted portable solution designed for super-fast deployment either flat, or elevated to 25 degrees In the carry case.

Our installation team will visit your site prior to sign off to check the optimum positioning of the antenna.
